With its colorful storefronts and original window displays, Rue Carnot, also known as the Quartier des Métiers d’Arts, is a fine example of local craftsmanship. On either side of the street, a dozen boutique-workshops face each other, allowing strollers to discover the work of traditional materials as well as age-old techniques. Since 2018, Villedieu Intercom has been supporting the installation of art craftsmen within the Muted City, which has been awarded the “Ville et Métiers d’Art” label. The Quartier des Métiers d’Art aims to showcase living heritage and raise public awareness of craft trades.
Goldsmiths, ceramists, leatherworkers, cabinetmakers… Open all year round, these artisans present their creations to the public, and most also offer workshops or introductory sessions in their field. To find out about the dates of these courses, please ask the craftsmen directly, or contact the Tourist Office. Every year in April, Villedieu hosts the Fête des Métiers d’Art, where some sixty craftspeople exhibit their creations in various locations around the town. This not-to-be-missed event celebrates the start of spring to the rhythm of local craftsmanship and know-how.
